DATES TO REMEMBER:
-Tuesday, June 14th—Dismissal @ 11:55
-Wed., June 15th—Last Day of School—Awards Assembly @ 10:00 & Dismissal @ 11:55

REPORT CARDS/GOODIES:
Last week I sent home a large baggie with all of the contents of your child’s book box so they can keep reading over the summer. You can expect many ‘goodies’ to come home this week. I’ll try to send a few things home each day so that it isn’t so overwhelming. Please be sure to check your child’s backpack each night for materials from the classroom. Here are a few things you can look forward to receiving:
-May/June Journal
-Writing Folder
-Student of the Week Poster
-Portfolio with Type 3 Writings & Class Book Pages
-The Very Hungry Kindergartner Booklet
-Report Card with End of the Year Assessments, Dibels, Aimsweb, and NWEA results
-Summer Homework Packet
-Kindergarten Memories DVD

SUMMER READING PROGRAM:
Attached you will find info regarding the Summer Reading Program at the library. They have a lot of great events planned to promote reading, learning, and fun!  I would encourage you to post it on your refrigerator so you can keep track of the upcoming events.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will take some time to talk about Summer Safety. Our friend Scrappy the Squirrel will make a final visit to talk to the students about how to stay safe this summer.

READING:
· As you make plans for summer fun, I’d like to encourage you to continue to build time for reading, writing, and math into your child’s day. Research shows that students can lose a lot of academic growth over the summer.
· Please be sure to return your child’s Reading Folder and Library book if you haven’t already :)
· I will be sending home your child’s Raz Kids login card. You can access Raz Kids directly through the school’s website and your child can read ‘good-fit’ books all summer long!

WRITING:
As you look through your child’s May/June Journals, portfolio, and booklets that they have written, be sure to notice their growth in writing from the beginning of the year to now—it really is amazing!

FINAL THOUGHTS:
What a fabulous year! I have enjoyed this group of students immensely! It is hard to believe that the last week of school is already here! In many ways it doesn’t seem possible, yet when I look at the students—their growth and the transformations that have occurred—I know it is time to send them on. Thank you for entrusting me with your precious children and for your support this year! I feel truly blessed to be able to do what I love each and every day! Have a safe and fun-filled summer!
Blessings,
Sherry Brinks
Maybe I’ll see you at the beach!

Track and Field Reminders

Tomorrow is our Track & Field Day - beginning @ 12:30.  Here are a couple of important reminders:

-Families are welcome - please park in the big parking lot and meet us up at the track. You may sign your child out and take them home @ the end of the event.

-Please be sure to dress your child in shorts, tennis shoes, red, white, & blue - our special SURPRISE tomorrow is that some high school students will be coming down to paint a little something on our faces to gear up for the event!

-Please send sunscreen labeled with your child's name - IF you would like them to have it on:)

-Please send them with a water bottle - I'd suggest freezing it tonight so it is cold for the afternoon.  Students can ONLY bring water, NO gatorade or flavored water will be allowed because it attracts bees. :(

Looks like it's going to be a great afternoon to be outside!

Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
· Vocabulary—environment, protect—Discuss ways your child can help to protect the environment, such as reducing, reusing, and recycling resources.

· Reading Folders—I’m planning to send take home reading folders home this week Monday and Wednesday and then collect them as we wrap up our year—Great Job Reading at Home!

WRITING:
This week we will share our informational texts via Author’s Chair.  We will create another digital story about our fieldtrip to Kettunen Center and email it to our parents.  If you are NOT receiving emails from your child, please let me know so I can troubleshoot! :)  We will also work on our Father’s Day cards and will be creating a personal timeline of our lives—past, present, & future.

MATH:
This week we will continue to work on adding and subtracting within 10—the students are doing a great job with addition & subtraction!

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will continue learning about Summer Safety and read several narrative and informational texts related to Ocean Animals.

Fieldtrip Tomorrow

Just a reminder that we will be going to Kettunen Center tomorrow  - Friday.
We have several parents joining us for the day.  If you are bringing your child to school, please be sure to have them here at 7:55 in time for breakfast.  We won't be having a morning snack, so they will want to get breakfast before we leave.

Just a couple of reminders of what to bring:
-Wear your gray Kindergarten t-shirt
-A sack lunch
-Sunscreen labeled with your child's name if you feel they will need it.  Please apply it in the morning so they are ready to go and we will reapply in the afternoon:)
-Hat & Sunglasses if they want to
-Appropriate clothing - we will be outside for most of the day, sometimes our feet get muddy by the pond so no nice shoes, a jacket for the morning

*I'll provide bug spray if we need it:)

Looking forward to a fun day outside together!
