100TH DAY OF SCHOOL:
The 100th Day of School is fast approaching. If we don’t have any snow days between now and then, it will fall on Valentine’s Day. This means
February 14th will be a very busy day. We will celebrate 100’s day in the morning and Valentine’s Day in the afternoon.
READING:
This week we will be working on the letter Rr and the sightwords not & do. We will be reading the book Raccoons & Ripe Corn as we work on
predicting, comprehension, vocabulary, & sequencing story events. We will also read The Tale of Peter Rabbit and Rooster’s Off to See the World and use them to introduce and discuss ‘Author’s Purpose.’ At literacy stations, we will be working on reading and writing sightwords, retelling stories, & blending and segmenting words. We will introduce a new beanie baby strategy this week to use during ‘read-to-self’ time: Peekin’ Poodle. She will be our cheerleader and remind us to use a variety of strategies when we come to a word we don’t know: Check the pictures, check the letters, Does it sound right, Does it make sense, Keep tryin’!
WRITING:
We will use The Napping House to discuss Organization, Word Choice, and Sentence Fluency. We will use this text for Ideas as we write in our journals about ‘a wish’ and describe a character from the story. We will also be writing about ways to take care of our teeth and something we would like to have 100 of. This week we will learn how to write a ‘friendly letter’ and address envelopes so that we are ready for the grand opening of our Post Office in Dramatic Play.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
February is Dental Health Month; this week we will be reading several fiction and nonfiction texts related to teeth and dental health and use them to determine ‘Author’s Purpose.’ We will also be reading several books about friendship.
MATH:
This week we will be comparing numbers using a number line to determine ‘bigger’ and ‘smaller’ numbers. We will also be using a balance to determine ‘equal’ and ‘not equal.’ We will continue to practice writing our numbers 1-20 and will begin adding two number together to find the sum.
Our next visit to the library is this Friday, Feb. 10th
