3RD GRADE BOOKSTORE:
Each year the third grade classes set up a book sale for the K-2nd graders as part of their Economics Unit.  They have used books for sale ranging from 25¢- $2.00.  We will go and shop TOMORROW, Tuesday, April 15th.  Please send your child with $1.00-$2.00 in change so they can purchase a couple of books. :)

READING:
Our focus text for this week is Five Little Ducks which we will use to practice sequencing and retelling a story in order.  We will also be reading several other narrative & informational texts about ducks.  Our focus letter this week is the letter Qq and our sightwords are that & you.  Please continue to practice reading and writing sightwords at home.  I will be completing running records with the students this week so that I can establish their most current reading levels for take-home books, as well as for Raz-Kids.  Most of them are making tremendous growth in reading!!!  Thanks for taking the time to read at home!

WRITING:
This week we will begin a new writing unit—Procedural Writing—How-to Books.  We will be looking at several mentor texts to notice the author’s purpose, audience, and structure of how-to books.  Then we will be the ‘experts’ on ‘Kindergarten’ as we begin writing our own How-to book about Kindergarten for the preschoolers who will be visiting us in a couple of weeks. :)

MATH:
This week we will work on comparing numbers and dividing, as we work on identifying equal halves.  We will also look at some different tools that we use to measure time.  Students will practice their measuring skills and graphing skills, this week, using Jelly Beans—Yum!

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will wrap up our Science Unit on Motion.  Students can bring in a toy from home for our lesson TOMORROW—see attached note.  Then they will take an assessment at the end of the week.  We will also be reading several stories related to Easter, Eggs, & Bunnies this week.
