FIELDTRIP—TOMORROW
We will leave school around 8:30 and return around 2:30. Your child will need—a sack lunch, appropriate clothing for outside activities, & sunscreen (if desired). We will provide a morning and afternoon snack & bug spray if needed. We are looking forward to a fun day of learning—outside!
TRACK & FIELD DAY:
Track and Field day is scheduled for Monday, June 9th beginning @ 12:30 up at the track. Please be sure to dress your child to match the weather conditions and send in a water bottle labeled with your child’s name. You also might want to send in sunscreen. :) As always, you are welcome to come in and cheer on the athletes!
SOPHOMORE CARNIVAL:
The annual sophomore carnival is this Friday, June 6th. This event is a fun time for the whole family! Please see the attached note to the newsletter for more details!
READING:
Our focus text for this week is Machines at Work, which we will use to work on classifying. We will be reviewing short vowels and work more in-depth on reading and writing long vowel words with the magic e. This week I will be assessing the students on all 50 sight words.
WRITING:
This week we will begin writing our own Informational Texts about frogs, birds, butterflies, or plants using the information we collected in our literacy circles. Students will make a table of contents and add a warning or tip to their books as well. We will also complete a couple of journals—one about our fieldtrip to Kettunen Center and another journal about what we learned in Kindergarten.
MATH:
This week we will continue to work on addition and subtraction to 10 using a variety of strategies. Students will also take an addition assessment for report cards.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
We will continue our Science unit on Earth Materials—this week we will be learning about ROCKS. We will learn about different types of rocks (Sedimentary, Igneous, & Metamorphic) and investigate their properties. We will read a book about Weird Rocks, conduct several experiments with rocks, and go on a ‘rock hunt.’
