STUDENT OF THE WEEK:
Our student of the week is Aidan Koetje. Aidan enjoys camping and fishing in the great outdoors. His favorite place to visit is the Mackinac Bridge and he would like to be a builder when he grows up! Congratulations to Aidan on being Student of the Week!
THANK YOU:
Our Christmas Party was a success! Thanks to all who donated treats and supplies for our party! A big thank you to Ms. Cornell and Mrs. Sprague who were able to come in and help out on short notice!
PTO THEME BASKET FUNDRAISER:
The PTO supports numerous school projects/activities financially; they committed a large amount to playground upgrades this past summer and are looking to replenish some funds for future projects. Here’s how it works: each class picks a theme, students bring in related items, & they are put together in baskets. The baskets will be displayed at several home BB games (1/25, 1/31, 2/5, 2/7, & 2/8); people can purchase tickets and place their tickets in the basket of their choice. A winner for each basket will be drawn on Monday, February 11th. Our classes theme is a Sundae Basket. So anything ice cream related minus the ice cream—bowls, spoons, scoopers, toppings, décor with ice cream, etc. Feel free to be creative! You can send in items anytime between now and January 18th. Thanks for supporting the PTO!
ATTENDANCE:
Good attendance is so important; in Kindergarten; so much of what we do is hands-on and oral instruction, and they miss out on so much when they are not here! Just a reminder that school begins at 8:02; any student who arrives after 8:15 is marked tardy. It really throws off our day when students arrive late; it’s no fun to start the day behind on work and then spend the rest of the day trying to catch up. :(
SLEDDING PARTY:
The kindergarten classes are planning a sledding party for Friday, January 18th. We will enjoy a time a sledding together and then come inside and warm up with some hot cocoa. We could use a couple of parent/grandparent volunteers to help push and pull kids outside, as well as a couple of volunteers to stay in and prepare our hot cocoa. If you would be willing to come in and help out, please let me know.
READING:
Our focus text for this week is No, No Titus which we will use to practice ‘determining the setting.’ Our focus letter for the week is Nn, and we will introduce the sight words my & we. We have lots of review and assessing to do in preparation for report cards and DIBELS—rhyming, letter naming, letter sounds, sight words, segmenting words into sounds, & sounding out words.
WRITING:
We will continue to work on writing Pattern Books through out this month, beginning with I See . . . books this week. This is my favorite time of year because the students’ abilities and confidence for writing just seem to blossom. It is so exciting to see them using their sight words and stretching out their words while writing!
MATH:
This week we will practice adding and subtracting using a number line, we will play a new game called Top-It (a.k.a. War), and review patterning. We also have a lot to review and assess for Math in preparation for rep. cards & Aimsweb.
LIBRARY:
Our next trip to the library will be this Friday! Most of the students’ books are already at school, since we were supposed to go before Christmas break. But if you haven’t already . . . . Please return your library book on or before Friday so that they can check out a new book.
Welcome Anna Burkholder—our newest addition to the classroom!
We now have 19 students in our class—10 boys & 9 girls!
