I hope everyone had a safe & Merry Christmas and are looking forward to a blessed New Year!  Since Christmas Break came early, I had a few things I wanted to let you know about.  I tried to contact most of you via e-mail and through my blog, but I know I still missed some, so here’s the scoop:

**Christmas Party – We will celebrate Friday, January 4th in the afternoon.  I realize that those of you who signed up to help out may not be available.  I could use a couple of parent volunteers though, so please let me know if any of you are available (those on the original list or those who were not).  We will keep with the same sign-up for snacks/supplies (I have the snacks/supplies that were sent in early safe and sound).

**I made some additions to our snack calendar for the first 3 days back since 2 students missed their helper dates in December and Dominick missed out on his B-day treat:  Wednesday – Lydia as planned, Thursday – Dayvi & Dominick (1 snack each), Friday – Aaron & Ashton (1 snack each) + Party in the afternoon

**Since winter is upon us – in the event of future snow days, we will have 2 helpers on the next day of school and each one can bring in 1 snack and they will share the ‘helper jobs.’

**Pajama Day – I have one scheduled for January 18th, as well as a sledding party.

BOOK-IT:
Please remember to return your child’s December Book-it Calendar so that I can award pizza certificates.  I am attaching a Jan. calendar to the Newsletter this week if you’d like to participate in Book-it for January.

ASSESSMENTS:
The end of the marking period is fast approaching; we will be assessing many skills and concepts during the next few weeks.  Students will also be reassessed on DIBELS (letters & sounds) and AIMSWEB (math concepts) to monitor their progress.  Please be sure that you child is well rested and remind them to ‘always’ do their best at school.  Also, attendance is so important; in Kindergarten so much of what we do is hands-on and oral instruction, and they miss out on so much when they are not here!  Report card will be sent home Friday, January 27th.
SLEDDING PARTY:
The kindergarten classes are planning a sledding party for Friday, January 18th.  We will enjoy a time a sledding together and then come inside and warm up with some hot cocoa. We could used a couple of parent/grandparent volunteers to help push and pull kids outside, as well as a couple of volunteers to stay in and prepare our hot cocoa.  If you would be willing to come in and help out, please let me know.

PTO THEME BASKET FUNDRAISER:
The PTO supports numerous school projects/activities financially; they committed a large amount to playground upgrades this past summer and are looking to replenish some funds for future projects. Here’s how it works: each class picks a theme, students bring in related items, & they are put together in baskets.  The baskets will be displayed at several home BB games (1/25, 1/31, 2/5, 2/7, & 2/8); people can purchase tickets and place their tickets in the basket of their choice.  A winner for each basket will be drawn on Monday, February 11th.  Our classes theme is a Sundae Basket.  So anything ice cream related minus the ice cream—bowls, spoons, scoopers, toppings, décor with ice cream, etc.  Feel free to be creative!  You can send in items anytime between now and January 18th.  Thanks for supporting the PTO!
