STUDENT OF THE WEEK:
Our student of the week is Camlar Ingleright. Camlar enjoys spending time with his pets (Fluffy & Casper) and his family.  He likes to eat fruit and popsicles and his favorite movie is Cars.  He recently accomplished one of his lifelong goals—going to Walt Disney World with his family!  Congratulations to Camlar on being Student of the Week!

READING:
This week our class will be reading stories about natural resources. Children will learn how they can use things in nature to create new things.
Here are some activities that you can do with your child to help reinforce the skills we will be practicing.
· Vocabulary—natural resources & create—Discuss different natural resources with your child. For example, talk about how we use trees to create, or make new things that people use every day.
· High-Frequency Words—where & look—Write the words where and look, then ask your child to write each word. Think of sentences that include each word. Read the sentences together and have your child underline the words where and look.
· Category Words—food made from grain—Explain that grain is a plant grown in soil. Soil comes from the earth. Invite your child to cut out pictures of foods made from grain and make a collage.
· Phonics: long o & s blends (sl, sc, sk, sm, sn, sp, st, sw) - Have your child guess words that include the long o sound, as in no, hose, rose, bone, and rope. Give a clue and act out the word. When your child guesses the word, write it on a piece of paper and have your child circle the letter o.

WRITING:
This week we will be sharing our informational booklets with the class via Author’s Chair.  We will also write another digital story using our Story Buddy app and complete a journal page about lifecycles.

MATH:
This week we will continue to work on addition and subtraction.  We will also practice telling time to the hour and work on building numbers 0-100 with base 10 blocks and practice ‘trading up.’  We will go to the computer lab on Thursday morning and take our NWEA Math Assessment.

SCIENCE & SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will continue our study of lifecycles as we focus on reading several informational texts related to seeds & plants and conduct some hands-on experiments. Our caterpillars are in chrysalis form now and should be emerging into butterflies in the next couple of weeks.

Please be sure to return your
Library book on or before Thursday!
