STUDENT OF THE WEEK:
Our student of the week is Miley Goodrich. Miley enjoys doing crafts and running; she has put in a lot of laps this Fall during the Mileage Club. Miley’s favorite place to visit is Myrtle Beach and when she grows up, Miley aspires to become a teacher! Congratulations to Miley on being our Student of the Week!
CONFERENCES:
You should have received your conference notice last week. Please be sure to return the bottom portion ASAP, to let me know your availability. I encourage you to try to arrange your schedule, so that we can meet to discuss your child’s progress. I look forward to meeting with you, sharing some of your child’s work samples, and discussing future learning goals together! Don’t forget to check out the Book Fair during conferences; it will be located in the hallway connecting the elementary and middle school.
NEW DROP OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURE:
In your child’s report card envelope, you should have received a yellow note explaining our new procedures for dropping off and picking up students from school. The intent is to increase safety and security during these busy times. This will take affect, next Monday, November 18th.
READING:
Our focus text for this week is Growing Vegetable Soup, which we will use to work on comprehension, inferring, and predicting. Our focus letter for this week is Ss and our new sightwords are can & at We will introduce another new beanie this week for Comprehension—Iggy the Inferring Iguana. He reminds us to pause while we are reading and use clues from the story to make predictions about what might happen next. We will also practice using Picturing Penguin to help us visualize while reading The Talking Pot.
WRITING:
This week we will continue our Writing Unit which focuses on being writing like Scientists. We will use our collections from our nature walk last Friday, to practice drawing, labeling, and capturing details, as we write our own Non-Fiction/Informational Texts.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will continue to read books about America and Patriotism in observation of Veteran’s Day. We will also begin our Social Studies Unit on Market Economy as we learn about wants, needs, and making a fair trade.
We will also read the story of Stone Soup to reinforce this concept and to help us prepare for our upcoming Friendship Soup project.
MATH:
This week we continue to work on symmetry as we discover that our bodies are symmetrical. We will also review patterning, digits, practice writing our numbers and counting with partners.
