CONFERENCES:
Thank you for taking the time to come in and meet for conferences; it was great to meet with each of you to discuss your child’s progress thus far in Kindergarten.  Research shows that parents and teachers working together is a huge predictor of student achievement!  Many times it’s the ‘little things’ that can make the biggest difference in our children’s lives.  I commend your commitment to their success in school!

NEW DROP OFF & PICK UP PROCEDURE:
Remember that if you are picking your child up from school at the end of the day, you will pick them up in the elementary cafeteria. We are asking parents to park in the big parking lot, enter the side door of the elementary cafeteria, and sign them out.  Please be sure to send a note, or call the office, if you plan to pick your child up, and don’t usually do so, that way we can get them on the sign out for the day and have them waiting for you in the cafeteria. :)

READING:
Our focus texts for this week are Stone Soup & Dinner at the Panda Palace which we will use to work on comprehension, vocabulary, predicting, and making connections.  We will also read several texts related to trains and practice identifying ’voice’ as we read Bed Hogs.  Our focus letter for this week is Tt and our new sightwords are like & am.  We will also introduce a new beanie baby strategy for Accuracy—Stretchy Snake—he reminds us to s-t-r-e-t-c-h/say all of the sounds in the word and then blend them together to figure out an unknown word.

WRITING:
This week we will continue our Writing Unit which focuses on being writing like Scientists.  We will practice using Stretchy Snake to stretch out our words while writing.  We will also complete a couple of fun journals related to turkeys and practice writing an apology letter to Farmer MacNugget.

SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
This week we will read several informational texts related to the Pilgrims and learn how they endured many hardships.  We will also compare and contrast their lifestyle then to our lifestyle now.  We will continue to discuss wants, needs, and fair trades as we prepare to make fair trades for our stone soup ingredients next Monday.

MATH:
This week we will work on comparing numbers, comparing weights of objects using a pan balance, and practice matching dominoes with the corresponding numbers.  Students will also learn a new math app—Monster Squeeze!!
